Bobby Dodd (1908-1988) served as Director of Athletics at Georgia Tech from 1950 to 1976 and head coach of the Yellow Jackets football team from 1945 to 1966. His career at Tech, which began in 1930 when he joined the staff as an assistant coach to William Alexander, spanned a period of forty-five years. The first recorded meeting of a Georgia Tech alumni association was held in 1896. In 1919, reorganization occurred and new by-laws were drafted under the name of the Georgia Tech National Alumni Association, under the leadership of W. H. Glenn (1891). In 1922, Albert H. The Georgia Institute of Technology, commonly referred to as Georgia Tech or Tech, was founded on October 13, 1885 as the Georgia School of Technology. The creation of the educational institution was part of the plans of Georgia leadership to reconstruct and revitalize the state's economy following the Civil War.
